Long-time FFBAIT newsletter editor Maurice Elton has sent the following report, showing that Business French works!
“I returned from a brief visit to Paris in order to attend on May 25th the award of the Légion d'honneur to one of my former Southern Methodist University students who took my very first class of Business French in the Spring of 1981, then went to Paris in 1988 in behalf of the Dallas Market Center, and soon after met her future husband!! The award recognizes 25 years of work and activity in the area of Franco-American relations, especially her involvement with the restoration of the Hôtel de Talleyrand which is the US Embassy annex that now houses the permament exhibit of the Marshall Plan that was signed there in 1947.
Two articles mentionning Candice Nancel (née Burgess) are in the wonderful France Magazine No. 64, Winter 2002-03 "Restoration of the Hôtel de Talleyrand" and France Magazine No. 93, Spring 2010, pp 58-59, "Honoring a Duke's Vision; The American Friends of Chantilly." She is even involved now with Chantilly!
Candice is now Cultural Heritage Manager and thus responsible for the State Department collection of art, antiques, and historic decors located inthe Embassy buildings in France. Quite a responsibility!!
By the way, President Sarkozy signed the official notification of her award (back in 2009) and the pinning was done by Alain Decaux, who happens to be a good friend of Candice and her French husband and children. Truly a success story.” |
